عَنْ أبي سعيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إذا وُضِعَتِ الجِنَازَةُ، فَاحْتَملَهَا الرِّجَالُ عَلى أَعنَاقِهِمْ، فَإنْ كَانتْ صَالحةً، قالتْ: قَدِّمُوني، وَإنْ كَانَتْ غَيْرَ صَالِحَةٍ، قَالَتْ لأهْلِهَا: يَا وَيْلَهَا أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ بِهَا؟ يَسْمَعُ صَوْتَهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ إلَّا الإنسانَ، وَلَوْ سَمِعَ الإنْسَانُ لَصَعِقَ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Said al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "When the funeral bier is placed and the men carry it upon their shoulders, if it was righteous it says: 'Take me forward!' And if it was not righteous it says to its family: 'O woe to it! Where are you taking it?' Everything hears its voice except man, and were man to hear it he would swoon." Reported by al-Bukhari.

وضعت: أي على السرير أو النعش . يا ويلها: يا هلاكها. لصعق: لغشي عليه أو لهلك.
"It is placed": that is, upon the bier or the funeral litter. "O woe to it": O its destruction. "He would swoon": he would faint or perish.

استحباب الإسراع بالجنازة بما لا يشق على من يتبعها ولا يحرك الميت. استبشار المؤمن بمنزلته عند دفنه، ورغبته في الإسراع بدفنه، والعصاة وغير المسلمين على غير ذلك. هذا حديث عظيم يخيف الإنسان ويدعوه للتأمل والتفكر في حاله وعمله. قد أمرنا بشهود واتباع الجنازة حتى نعتبر خوفًا من هذا المكان وهو القبر وما يكون فيه، لذلك فالجنازة عِبرة للإنسان المؤمن، فإذا ذهب إلى القبور وسلم عليهم نظر وعلم أنّ هذا مآله ومصيره، وتخيل القبور وما فيها.
It is recommended to hasten with the funeral in a way that does not burden those following it nor jolt the deceased. The believer's rejoicing at his station when he is buried, and his eagerness for his burial to be hastened, whereas the sinners and the non-Muslims are otherwise. This is a momentous hadith that instills fear in a person and calls him to reflect and ponder his condition and his deeds. We have been commanded to attend and accompany the funeral so that we may take heed, out of fear of this place—the grave—and what is in it. Thus the funeral is a lesson for the believer: when he goes to the graves and greets them, he looks and knows that this is his destination and his end, and he pictures the graves and what is in them.
