عَنْ عمْرِو بنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عنْ أَبيهِ، عنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قال رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «الرَّاكِبُ شَيْطَانٌ، والرَّاكِبانِ شَيْطَانَانِ، والثَّلاثَةُ رَكْبٌ». رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ والتِّرْمِذِيُّ، والنَّسَائِيُّ بأَسانيدَ صَحِيحةٍ، وقالَ التِّرْمِذِيُّ: حَدِيثٌ حسنٌ.
Amr ibn Shu'ayb reported from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A single rider is a devil, two riders are two devils, and three are a travelling party." Reported by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, and al-Nasa'i with authentic chains; and al-Tirmidhi said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
شيطان: أي يرافقه الشيطان فيغويه. رَكب: هو في الأصل الجماعة تركب الإبل ثم أطلق على كل جماعة مسافرة.
"A devil": that is, the devil accompanies him and leads him astray. "Travelling party": originally the group that rides camels, then it was applied to every group that travels together.
