عنْ أَبي هُرَيْرَة رضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «إذا سافَرْتُمْ في الخِصْبِ فَأعْطُوا الإِبِلَ حظَّهَا مِنَ الأَرْضِ، وإِذا سافَرْتُمْ في الجَدْبِ، فَأَسْرِعُوا عَلَيْهَا السَّيْرَ، وَبادِروا بِهَا نِقْيَهَا، وَإذا عرَّسْتُم، فَاجتَنِبُوا الطَّريقَ، فَإِنَّهَا طرُقُ الدَّوابِّ، وَمأْوى الهَوامِّ باللَّيْلِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you travel in fertile land, give the camels their due share of the ground; and when you travel in barren land, hasten their pace and press on with them before their strength is gone. And when you make camp at night, keep away from the road, for it is the path of animals and the refuge of vermin by night." Reported by Muslim.

الخصب: اسم مصدر من أخصب المكان إذا نبت فيه العشب والكلأ. أعطُوا الإِبِلَ حَظَّها مِنَ الأرْض: أَيْ ارْفُقُوا بِهَا في السَّيرِ لترْعَى في حالِ سيرِهَا. حظّها: نصيبها. الجدب: انقطاع المطر ويبس الأرض. نِقْيَها: هوَ المُخُّ، معْناهُ: أَسْرِعُوا بِهَا حَتَّى تَصِلُوا المَقْصِدَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ مُخُّها مِنْ ضَنكِ السَّيْرِ. عرّستم: التَّعْرِيسُ هو النُّزُولُ في اللَّيْلِ. فاجتنبوا الطريق: أي لا تنزلوا فيها واعدلوا عنها. مأوى الهوام والزواحف: أي تلجأ إليها الحشرات والأفاعي وغيرها وتسكن فيها.
"Fertile land": a verbal noun from "the place became fertile," meaning grass and herbage grew in it. "Give the camels their due share of the ground": that is, be gentle with them in travel so that they may graze as they go. "Their share": their portion. "Barren land": the cessation of rain and the dryness of the earth. "Their strength": literally their marrow; the meaning is: hasten with them until you reach the destination before their marrow is gone from the hardship of the journey. "You make camp": camping at night is to alight during the night. "Keep away from the road": that is, do not alight on it, but turn aside from it. "The refuge of vermin and crawling creatures": that is, insects, snakes, and the like take shelter and dwell in it.

الرفق بالحيوان وذلك بإعطاء الدواب حظها من المرعى. اجتناب الأماكن الموحشة والتي يتوقع فيها الأذى في المبيت أثناء السفر. السنة أن يراعى مصلحة الدابة في المرعى والسرعة، والتأني بحسب الأرفق بها.
Kindness to animals, by giving the beasts their share of pasture. Avoiding desolate places and those where harm is expected when spending the night during travel. It is from the Sunnah to observe the interest of the mount in pasturing and in speed, proceeding gently according to what is most beneficial for it.
