عَنْ أَنسٍ رَضيَ اللّهُ عنْهُ قالَ: كُنَّا إِذا نَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا، لا نُسَبِّحُ حَتَّى نَحُلَّ الرِّحَالَ. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإِسنادٍ على شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ .
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When we made camp, we would not pray voluntary prayers until we had unloaded the mounts. Reported by Abu Dawud with a chain meeting the conditions of Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
لا نُسَبِّحُ: أَيْ لا نُصلِّي النَّافِلَةَ، ومَعْناهُ: أَنَّا كُنَّا مَعَ حِرْصِنا على الصَّلاةِ لا نُقَدِّمُها عَلى حطِّ الرِّحالِ وإرَاحةِ الدَّوابِّ. نحلّ الرحال: أي نضعها عن ظهور الدواب، والرحال: الأحمال وهو ما يعد للرحيل من أمتعة ومركب وغيره.
"We would not pray voluntary prayers": that is, we would not pray the supererogatory prayer; the meaning is that, despite our eagerness for prayer, we would not give it precedence over unloading the mounts and giving the beasts rest. "Unloaded the mounts": that is, we take them off the backs of the beasts; the loads are the burdens, which is what is prepared for the journey of baggage, mount, and the like.
