عَنْ جابرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رسولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ : أَنَّهُ أَرادَ أَنْ يَغْزُوَ، فقالَ: « يا معْشَرَ المُهَاجِرِينَ والأنصارِ، إِنَّ مِنْ إخوَانِكُمْ قَوْمًا ليْسَ لهُمْ مَالٌ وَلا عشِيرَةٌ، فَلْيَضُمَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِليْهِ الرَّجُلَيْنِ أو الثَّلاثَةَ، فمَا لأحدِنَا مِنْ ظَهْرٍ يحْمِلُهُ إلاَّ عُقْبَةٌ كَعُقْبَةِ» يعْني: أَحَدِهِمْ. قالَ: فَضَممْتُ إليَّ اثْنَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاثَةً، وَما لي إلَّا عُقْبَةٌ كَعُقْبَةِ أَحَدِهمْ مِنْ جَمَلِي. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he intended to go on a military expedition and said: "O company of the Muhajirun and the Ansar, among your brothers are a people who have neither wealth nor kin; so let each of you take two or three men with him. None of us has any mount to carry him except by taking turns riding, just as they take turns" meaning one of them. Jabir said: So I took two or three men with me, and I had no more than a turn riding my camel like the turn of one of them. Reported by Abu Dawud.

معشر: القوم وجماعة. عشيرة: قبيلة تعاونه. فليضم إليه: بالإنفاق عليه وإعداد الزاد والمركب. عُقبة: أي تعاقب المسافرين على الدابّة، والمقصود التناوب في ركوب الدابة.
"Company": a people and a group. "Kin": a tribe to support him. "Let him take with him": by spending on him and preparing provisions and a mount. "A turn": that is, the travellers taking turns on the mount; what is meant is alternating in riding the mount.
