عنْ أَبي مُوسَى الأشعريّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ كانَ إذا خَافَ قَوْمًا قالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ في نُحُورِهِمْ، ونعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ والنَّسَائِيُّ بإسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he feared a people, would say: "O Allah, we place You at their throats, and we seek refuge in You from their evils." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i with a sahih (authentic) chain.
الشرح · explanation
نحورهم: جمع نحر وهو موضع الذبح من الحلق، والمعنى ندعوك أن تجعل عونك وقاية لنا فترد عنا كيدهم إلى نحورهم.
"Their throats (nuhurihim)": the plural of nahr, which is the place of slaughter in the throat; the meaning is: we ask You to make Your help a protection for us, so that You turn their scheming back away from us upon their own throats.
