عَنْ أَنسٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم، حَتَّى إذا كُنَّا بِظَهْرِ المَدِينَةِ قَالَ: «آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ» فَلَمْ يزَلْ يقولُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا المَدِينَةَ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were returning with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we were overlooking Medina he said: "We return, repenting, worshipping, praising our Lord." He kept saying that until we reached Medina. Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
بظهر المدينة: أي في مكان تظهر فيه المدينة على القادم، والمراد مدينة النّبيّ صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم.
"Overlooking Medina (bi-zahr al-Madinah)": that is, at a place from which Medina becomes visible to the one arriving; what is meant is the city of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
