عَنِ ابنِ عُمرَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُما، عنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قال: «لا حَسَدَ إِلّا في اثنَتَيْنِ: رجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللّهُ القُرْآنَ، فهوَ يقومُ بِهِ آناءَ اللَّيلِ وآنَاءَ النَّهَارِ، وَرجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللّهُ مالًا، فهُوَ يُنْفِقهُ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَآنَاءَ النَّهارِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no [permissible] envy except in two cases: a man to whom Allah has given the Qur'an, so he stands with it throughout the hours of the night and the hours of the day; and a man to whom Allah has given wealth, so he spends it throughout the hours of the night and the hours of the day." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
لا حسد: الحسد هنا بمعنى الغبطة، وهي أن يتمنى أن يكون له مثل ما لغيره من غير أن تزول عن غيره تلك النعمة. آتاه القرآن: أي وفَّقَه اللّهُ لحفظه وفهمه. يقوم به: يقرأه في الصلاة أو يداوم على تلاوته مطلقًا، ويدخل في القيام بالقرآن العمل بأحكامه. آنَاء: ساعَات من اللّيل والنهار، والمراد الانشغال بالقرآن والصدقة في كل الأوقات.
"No envy (la hasad)": envy here means ghibtah (emulation), which is to wish to have the like of what another possesses, without that blessing being removed from the other. "Given the Qur'an": that is, Allah has granted him the ability to memorize and understand it. "Stands with it": he recites it in prayer or is constant upon its recitation in general; and acting upon its rulings is included in "standing with the Qur'an." "Hours (ana')": hours of the night and the day; what is meant is occupation with the Qur'an and with charity at all times.
