عَنْ أَبي مُوسَى رضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ، عنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «تَعاهَدُوا هذا الْقُرآنَ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ، لهوَ أشدُّ تفلّتًا من الإبلِ في عُقُلِها» متفق عليه.
Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep hold of this Qur'an, for by the One in whose Hand is Muhammad's soul, it is more prone to slipping away than camels from their tethers." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

تعاهدوا هذا القرآن: واظبوا وحافظوا على تلاوته. تفلتًا: تخلصًا، والمقصود عدم الثبوت. في عُقلها: جمع عقال، وهو حبل يشد به البعير في وسط الذراع.
"Keep hold of this Qur'an (ta'ahadu)": be constant upon its recitation and preserve it. "Slipping away (tafalluttan)": escaping; what is meant is its not remaining firm. "From their tethers (fi 'uquliha)": the plural of 'iqal, which is a rope by which a camel is bound at the middle of its foreleg.

أنّ حافظ القرآن إن تعاهده بالتلاوة مرة بعد أخرى بقي محفوظًا في لوحة قلبه، وإلّا ذهب عنه ونسيه لأنّه أسرع ذهابًا من الإبل.
If the memorizer of the Qur'an keeps hold of it by reciting it time after time, it remains preserved on the tablet of his heart; otherwise it departs from him and he forgets it, for it is quicker to depart than camels.
