عَنِ ابْنِ عبَّاسٍ رضِيَ اللّهُ عنْهُمَا قَالَ: بيْنَمَا جِبْرِيلُ عليه السّلام قَاعِدٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم سَمِعَ نَقِيضًا مِنْ فَوْقِهِ، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ: «هَذَا بَابٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فُتِحَ اليَوْمَ، ولَمْ يُفْتَحْ قَطُّ إِلَّا اليَوْمَ»، فَنَزَلَ مِنهُ مَلَكٌ، فَقَالَ: «هَذَا مَلَكٌ نَزَلَ إِلى الأَرْضِ، لمْ يَنْزِلْ قَطُّ إِلّا اليَوْمَ، فَسَلَّمَ وقالَ: «أَبْشِرْ بِنُورَيْنِ أُوتِيتَهُمَا، لَمْ يُؤْتَهُمَا نَبِيٌّ قَبْلَكَ: فَاتحةِ الكِتَابِ، وَخَواتِيم سُورَةِ البَقَرةِ، لَنْ تَقْرَأَ بِحَرْفٍ مِنْهَا إِلَّا أُعْطِيتَهُ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: While Jibril (Gabriel), peace be upon him, was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he heard a creaking sound from above him. He raised his head and said: "This is a gate in heaven that has been opened today, and it was never opened except today." An angel descended from it, and he said: "This is an angel who has descended to the earth, who never descended except today." He gave the greeting of peace and said: "Rejoice at two lights that you have been given, which no prophet before you was given: the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah) and the closing verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will not recite a single letter of them but that you are granted it." Reported by Muslim.

نقِيضُ: صَوْتُ. فرفع رأسه: ظاهر السياق أنّ الضمائر الثلاثة لجبريل، ويؤيد ذلك أنّه أكثر اطلاعًا على أحوال السماء، وقيل بل راجعة للنّبيّ. أبشر بنورين: افرح بنورين، لأن كلًا منهما يكون نورًا لصاحبه يوم القيامة يسعى أمامه.
"a creaking sound (naqid)": a sound. "he raised his head": the apparent meaning of the context is that the three pronouns refer to Jibril, supported by the fact that he is more acquainted with the states of heaven; and it is said that they rather refer to the Prophet. "Rejoice at two lights": be glad at two lights, for each of them will be a light for its bearer on the Day of Resurrection, going forth before him.
