عَنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قالَ: «إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ العَبْدُ المُسْلِمُ -أَوِ المُؤْمِنُ- فَغَسَلَ وجْهَهُ، خَرجَ مِنْ وَجْهِهِ كُلُّ خَطِيئَةٍ نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا بِعيْنَيْهِ معَ الماءِ، أَوْ معَ آخرِ قَطْرِ المَاءِ، فَإِذا غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ خَرَجَ مِنْ يَدَيْهِ كُلُّ خَطِيئَةٍ كانَ بطَشَتْهَا يَداهُ مَعَ المَاءِ، أَوْ معَ آخِرِ قَطْرِ المَاءِ، فَإِذا غَسَلَ رِجَليْهِ، خَرَجَتْ كُلُّ خَطِيئَةٍ مَشَتْهَا رِجْلاهُ معَ الماءِ، أَوْ مَعَ آخِرِ قَطْرِ الماءِ، حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ نَقِيًّا مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the Muslim servant—or the believing servant—performs ablution and washes his face, every sin at which he looked with his eyes departs from his face with the water, or with the last drop of water. When he washes his hands, every sin that his hands committed departs from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water. And when he washes his feet, every sin toward which his feet walked departs with the water, or with the last drop of water, until he emerges cleansed of sins." Reported by Muslim.

خرج من وجهه كل خطيئة: دلالة عن غفران الخطيئة. خطيئة: ذنب صغير متعلق بحق الله تعالى. قطر الماء: جمع قطرة أي مع آخر قطرات الماء. بطشتها: أي اكتسبتها يداه وعملتها. مع الماء: أي مع انفصال الماء.
"every sin departs from his face": an indication of the forgiveness of the sin. "khatiʾah (sin)": a minor sin connected with the right of Allah the Exalted. "qatr al-maʾ (drops of water)": the plural of qatrah (drop), that is, with the last of the drops of water. "batashat-ha": that is, what his hands earned and did. "with the water": that is, with the falling away of the water.

الوضوء من أسباب الطهارة من الذنوب الصغيرة، كما أنّه نظافة من الأقذار المادية الظاهرة. أنّ المسلم إذا استشعر أثناء وضوئه كيف أن سيئاته تخرج مع الماء لكان ذلك مدعاة لحضور قلبه وزيادة إيمانه.
Ablution is among the means of purification from minor sins, just as it is a cleansing from visible physical impurities. That if the Muslim were conscious, during his ablution, of how his misdeeds depart with the water, that would be a means to the presence of his heart and the increase of his faith.
