Riyad Al Salihin

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the graveyard and said: "Peace be upon you, abode of a believing people; and we will, Allah willing, join you. I wish that we could have seen our brothers." They said: "Are we not your brothers, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You are my companions, but our brothers are those who have not yet come." They said: "How will you recognize those of your ummah who have not yet come, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Tell me, if a man had horses with white blazes and white-marked legs among jet-black, solid-colored horses, would he not recognize his horses?" They said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Then they will come with bright faces and bright limbs from ablution, and I will be their forerunner at the Basin (al-Hawd)." Reported by Muslim.

Clarifying the merit of ablution on the Day of Resurrection. The brothers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are those who come after the era of the Companions. The Companions surpassed those who come after them by the honor of companionship. Glad tidings to this ummah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) will precede it to the Basin on the Day of Resurrection—blessed is the one who is fortunate enough to attain that and win it.
