عَنْ أَبي هُريرة رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قالَ: «الصَّلَوَاتُ الخَمْسُ، والجُمُعَةُ إِلى الجُمُعَةِ كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ، مَا لَمْ تُغْشَ الكَبَائِرُ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The five prayers, and from one Friday to the next, are an expiation for what is between them, so long as major sins are not committed." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
الجمعة إلى الجمعة: أي من صلاة الجمعة إلى صلاة الجمعة الأخرى. كفارة لما بينهن: تجاوز لما يحصل بينها من السيئات الصغيرة. تُغْش: تُؤْت. الكبائر: كالإشراك باللّه، وعقوق الوالدين، واليمين الغموس، وشهادة الزور، وأكل مال اليتيم، وقذف المحصنات الغافلات.
"from one Friday to the next": that is, from one Friday prayer to the next Friday prayer. "an expiation for what is between them": a pardon for the minor sins that occur between them. "committed": approached and done. "major sins": such as associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, the false oath (al-yamin al-ghamus), false testimony, consuming the wealth of the orphan, and slandering chaste, unsuspecting women.

A statement of the merit of performing the prayers and the Friday prayer, for they pardon the one who performs them for the minor sins he may commit; but the expiation of major sins requires sincere repentance (tawbah nasuh).
