عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: سَمِعْتُ رسولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَا مِنِ امْرِىءٍ مُسْلِمٍ تَحْضُرُهُ صَلاَةٌ مَكْتُوبَةٌ فَيُحْسِنُ وُضُوءَهَا وَخُشُوعَهَا وَرُكُوعَهَا إِلّا كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا قَبْلَهَا مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ مَا لَمْ تُؤْتَ كَبِيرَةٌ، وَذَلِكَ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There is no Muslim person who, when the time of an obligatory prayer comes, performs its ablution well, and its humility, and its bowing well, except that it is an expiation for the sins that came before it, so long as no major sin is committed; and that is for all time." الشرح · explanation
مكتوبة: مفروضة. من الذنوب: الصغائر. كبيرة: أي سيئة كبيرة، وهي التي توعد اللّه عليها بعذاب في الدنيا أو الآخرة.
"obligatory": prescribed as a duty. "the sins": the minor ones. "a major sin": that is, a grave misdeed, which is one for which Allah has threatened a punishment in this world or the Hereafter.
