عَنْ أَبي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: قالَ رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «يَتَعَاقَبُونَ فِيكُمْ مَلائِكَةٌ بِاللَّيْلِ، وملائِكَةٌ بِالنَّهَارِ، وَيجْتَمِعُونَ في صَلاةِ الصُّبْحِ وصَلاةِ العَصْرِ، ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ الَّذِينَ باتُوا فِيكُمْ، فَيَسْأَلُهُمُ اللّهُ -وهُوَ أَعْلمُ بِهِمْ-: كَيْفَ تَرَكْتُمْ عِبَادِي؟ فَيقُولُونَ: تَرَكْنَاهُمْ وهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ، وأَتَيْنَاهُمْ وهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Angels take turns among you by night and by day, and they gather at the dawn prayer and the Asr prayer. Then those who spent the night among you ascend, and Allah asks them — though He knows best about them: 'How did you leave My servants?' They say: 'We left them while they were praying, and we came to them while they were praying.'" Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

بيان فضل صلاتي الصبح والعصر بحضور الملائكة فيهما وشهادتهم لمن حضرهما. لطف اللّه بالمؤمنين وتكريمه لهم، إذ جعل اجتماع الملائكة عليهم ومفارقتهم في أوقات عبادتهم، وسؤال اللّه للملائكة لإظهار شرف المصلين وبيان فضل عبادتهم.
A statement of the merit of the Fajr and Asr prayers through the presence of the angels at them and their witnessing for whoever attends them. Allah's kindness to the believers and His honoring of them, in that He made the angels gather to them and depart from them at the times of their worship, and Allah's questioning of the angels to manifest the honor of those who pray and to make clear the merit of their worship.
