عَنْ عَبْدِ اللّهِ، وَقِيلَ: عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، المَعْرُوفِ بِابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ المُؤَذِّنِ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يا رسُولَ اللّهِ، إِنَّ المَدِينَةَ كَثِيرَةُ الهَوَامِّ وَالسِّبَاعِ، فقالَ رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: «تَسْمَعُ حَيَّ عَلى الصَّلاَةِ، حَيَّ عَلى الفَلاحِ فَحَيَّ هلا» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإسْنَادٍ حَسَنٍ.
Abdullah—and it is said Amr—ibn Qays, known as Ibn Umm Maktum the muezzin (may Allah be pleased with him), reported that he said: O Messenger of Allah, Medina has many vermin and beasts of prey. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you hear 'Come to prayer, come to success'? Then come along." Reported by Abu Dawud with a hasan (good) chain.

الهوام: هي الحشرات المؤذية، كالأفعى والعقرب. السباع: الحيوانات المفترسة، كالذئب أو الكلب العقور. حَيَّ هَلا: تَعَالَ.
"The vermin (al-hawamm)": harmful crawling creatures, such as snakes and scorpions. "The beasts of prey (al-siba)": predatory animals, such as wolves or biting dogs. "Come along (hayya hala)": come.
