عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا نُصَلِّي عَلى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتيْنِ بَعْدَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ قَبْلَ المَغْرِبِ، فَقِيلَ: أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ صَلّاهُمَا؟ قالَ: كانَ يَرانَا نُصَلِّيهِمَا فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) we used to pray two rak'ahs after the sun had set, before Maghrib. It was asked: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray them? He said: He would see us praying them, and he neither commanded us nor forbade us. Reported by Muslim.
