عنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ: أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى السَّائِبِ ابْنِ أُخْتِ نَمِرٍ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ رَآهُ مِنْهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ في الصَّلاةِ، فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ الجُمُعَةَ في المَقْصُورَةِ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ الإِمَامُ قُمْتُ في مقَامِي فَصلَّيْتُ، فَلَمَّا دَخلَ أَرْسَلَ إِليَّ فقالَ: لا تَعُدْ لِمَا فعَلْتَ، إذا صلَّيْتَ الجُمُعَةَ فَلا تَصِلْهَا حَتَّى تَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ تخْرُجَ، فَإنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنا بِذَلكَ، أَلّا نُوصِلَ صَلاةً بِصَلاةٍ حتَّى نَتَكَلَّمَ أَوْ نَخْرُجَ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Umar ibn Ata reported that Nafi ibn Jubayr sent him to al-Sa'ib, the son of Namir's sister, to ask him about something that Mu'awiyah had observed from him in the prayer. He said: Yes, I prayed the Friday prayer with him in the maqsurah, and when the imam had made the taslim I stood up in my place and prayed. When he came in, he sent for me and said: Do not repeat what you did. When you have prayed the Friday prayer, do not join it with another prayer until you have spoken or gone out, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us thus, that we should not join one prayer to another until we speak or go out. المقصورة: هي الحجرة الصغيرة تكون في البيت أو المسجد، والمقصود هنا جزء في المسجد مخصوص. لا تعد: أي لا تعد إلى وصل النافلة بالمكتوبة، والنهي للكراهة.
"The maqsurah": it is a small chamber found in a house or a mosque; what is meant here is a specific enclosed section of the mosque. "Do not repeat": that is, do not return to joining the voluntary prayer with the obligatory one; the prohibition is one of dislike.
