عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: كَانَ رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى أَرْبَعًا، ويَزِيدُ مَا شَاءَ اللّهُ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray four rak'ahs for the Duha, and would add however much Allah willed. Reported by Muslim.

الأكمل في صلاة الضحى أن تكون أربع ركعات على الأقل، مع جواز كونها ركعتين. لا حصر للزيادة في صلاة الضحى في هذا الحديث، ولكن استقراء الأحاديث الواردة عن رسول اللّهِ صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم فيها بيان أنّه لم يزد على الثماني.
The most complete form of the Duha prayer is that it be at least four rak'ahs, though it is permissible for it to be two. There is no stated limit to the addition in the Duha prayer in this hadith, but a survey of the hadiths reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) shows that he did not exceed eight rak'ahs.
