عَنْ أَبي هُريْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ تَوَضَّأ فَأَحْسَنَ الوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْجُمُعَةَ، فَاسْتَمَعَ وأنْصَتَ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَزِيَادَةُ ثَلاَثَةِ أيَّامٍ، وَمَنْ مَسَّ الْحَصَى فَقَدْ لَغَا» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution well, then comes to the Friday prayer, and listens attentively and remains silent, he will be forgiven what is between that Friday and the next, and three days more; but whoever touches the pebbles has engaged in idle conduct." أحسن الوضوء: أتى بآدابه وسننه وأسبغ غسل الأعضاء. أتى الجمعة: صلاة الجمعة في المسجد. فاستمع وأنصت: أي إلى الخطبة. غفر له: أي الذنوب الصغيرة. وزيادة: أي لأنّ الحسنة بعشرة أمثالها. مس الحصى: عبث بها. لغا: أتى بما هو مذموم من اللغو، وهو كل كلام باطل، وما لا فائدة فيه.
"Performs ablution well": he observes its etiquettes and sunnahs and thoroughly washes the limbs. "Comes to the Friday prayer": the Friday prayer in the mosque. "Listens attentively and remains silent": that is, to the sermon (khutbah). "He will be forgiven": that is, the minor sins. "And more": that is, because a good deed is rewarded tenfold. "Touches the pebbles": he fiddles with them. "Has engaged in idle conduct (lagha)": he has done something blameworthy of idle conduct, which is any false speech and anything of no benefit.
