عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «غُسْلُ يَوْمِ الجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ghusl on Friday is obligatory upon every one who has reached puberty." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

واجب: وُجُوبُ اختِيَارٍ، أي متأكد في حقه. محتلم: أي ممن يحضرها ذكرًا كان أم أنثى من البالغين.
"Obligatory": an obligation of preference, that is, strongly emphasized upon him. "One who has reached puberty (muhtalim)": that is, from among those who attend it, whether male or female, who have reached puberty.

واجب على كل محتلم معناه عند أكثر أهل العلم: أي متأكد، ويدل على هذا المعنى: اكتفاؤه صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم بالوضوء في بعض الأحاديث وهكذا الطيب، والاستياك، ولبس الحسن من الثياب، والتبكير إلى الجمعة، كله من السنن المرغب فيها، وليس شيء منها واجبًا.
"Obligatory upon every one who has reached puberty" means, according to most of the people of knowledge: emphasized. Indicating this meaning is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered ablution sufficient in some hadiths; likewise, applying perfume, using the tooth-stick (siwak), wearing fine clothing, and coming early to the Friday prayer are all among the encouraged sunnahs, and none of them is obligatory.
