عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ غُسْلَ الجَنَابَةِ ثُمَّ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الأُولَى، فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَدَنَةً، وَمَنْ رَاحَ فِي السَّاعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَقَرَةً، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ كَبْشًا أَقْرَنَ، وَمَنْ رَاحَ فِي السَّاعَةِ الرَّابِعَةِ فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ دَجَاجَةً، وَمَنْ رَاحَ في السَّاعَةِ الخَامِسَةِ فَكَأنَّمَا قَرَّبَ بَيْضَةً، فَإذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ.. حَضَرَتِ المَلاَئِكَةُ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الذِّكْرَ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever bathes on Friday with the bathing of major ritual impurity, then goes early in the first hour, it is as though he offered a camel as sacrifice; whoever goes in the second hour, it is as though he offered a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as though he offered a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as though he offered a hen; whoever goes in the fifth hour, it is as though he offered an egg. And when the imam comes out, the angels attend to listen to the remembrance." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

غُسْلَ الْجَنَابَةِ: أَيْ غُسْلًا كَغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ فِي الصِّفَةِ. قرّب: تصدق بقصد التقرب من اللّهِ تعالى. بدنة: واحدة الإبل ذكرًا كان أم أنثى. أقرن: ذا قرون، ووصف بذلك لأنه أكمل وأحسن صورة. خرج الإمام: صعد الخطيب المنبر. حضرت الملائكة: وهم المكلفون بكتابة أسماء المبكرين إلى الجمعة، والمعنى أنهم يتركون الكتابة عندها. الذكر: الموعظة.
"The bathing of major ritual impurity": that is, a bathing like the bathing for major ritual impurity in its manner. "Offered as sacrifice": gave in charity seeking nearness to Allah the Exalted. "A camel (badanah)": a single camel, whether male or female. "Horned": possessing horns; it is so described because it is more complete and finer in form. "The imam comes out": the preacher ascends the pulpit. "The angels attend": they are the ones charged with recording the names of those who come early to the Friday prayer; the meaning is that they cease recording at that point. "The remembrance": the sermon.

بيان فضل التبكير إلى صلاة الجمعة والحثّ على ذلك، وأنه كلما بكر أكثر كان ثوابه أكبر، وثواب التبكير زيادة عن ثواب صلاة الجمعة ويفوت بصعود الخطيب إلى المنبر. في صلاة الجمعة أسرار عظيمة وفوائد كبيرة منها حضور الملائكة الذين تلازمهم السكينة وترافقهم الرحمة. ثواب غسل الجمعة لا يحصل إلا إذا كان على كيفية غسل الجنابة من حيث شموله لجميع البدن وبقصد القربة، ولو اغتسل من جنابة ونوى مع رفع الحدث غسل الجمعة حصل ثوابه.
A statement of the merit of coming early to the Friday prayer and encouragement to do so: the earlier one comes, the greater the reward; the reward of coming early is in addition to the reward of the Friday prayer itself, and it is lost once the preacher ascends the pulpit. In the Friday prayer there are great secrets and immense benefits, among them the presence of the angels, who are accompanied by tranquility and mercy. The reward of the Friday bath is only attained if it is done in the manner of the bath for major ritual impurity, in that it covers the entire body and is done with the intention of seeking nearness to Allah; and if one bathes from major impurity and intends, together with removing the impurity, the Friday bath, its reward is attained.
