Riyad Al Salihin

Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sleeps through his portion [of night devotion], or through part of it, and then recites it between the Fajr prayer and the Zuhr prayer, it is recorded for him as though he had recited it in the night." Reported by Muslim.

The recommendation of compensating for the good deeds one misses. The hadith indicates that the number of rak'ahs one makes up during the day should preferably match the amount he regularly maintains at night. Making up what one has missed carries its reward just as if he had performed it in its [proper] time.
