عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «رَحِمَ اللّهُ رَجُلًا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّى، وَأيْقَظَ امْرَأَتَهُ، فَإِنْ أَبَتْ نَضَحَ فِي وَجْهِهَا الْمَاءَ، رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَأَةً قَامَتْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّتْ، وَأيْقَظَتْ زَوْجَهَا، فَإِنْ أَبَى نَضَحَتْ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْمَاءَ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who rises in the night and prays, and awakens his wife; and if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. And may Allah have mercy on a woman who rises in the night and prays, and awakens her husband; and if he refuses, she sprinkles water on his face." Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.

أيقظ امرأته: أي للصلاة في الليل. نضح: رشّ.
"Awakens his wife": that is, for prayer during the night. "Sprinkles": splashes lightly.

الحثّ على التعاون على الطاعة والعمل الصالح. استحباب إيقاظ كل من الزوجين الآخر لقيام الليل، والاستعانة على ذلك بما يذهب عنه النوم الغالب. المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة في العبادة أداء لحقّ اللّهِ تعالى.
Encouragement to cooperate in obedience and righteous deeds. The recommendation that each spouse awaken the other for the night prayer, aided by whatever dispels overpowering sleep. The equality of man and woman in worship, in fulfilling the right of Allah the Exalted.
