عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever stands [in prayer] on the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

من قام ليلة القدر: أحياها بالعبادة. إيمانًا واحتسابًا: موقنًا بثوابها ومخلصًا في قيامها.
"Whoever stands [in prayer] on the Night of Decree": he spends it alive with worship. "Out of faith and seeking reward": with certainty in its reward and sincerity in standing [in prayer during] it.

بيان فضل ليلة القدر والحثّ على قيامها وأنّ ذلك يكفر ما تقدم من ذنوب العبد. بيان سعة رحمة اللّهِ وفضله على عباده بتجاوزه عن ذنوبهم وسيئاتهم. فضل قيام ليلة القدر بعموم الطاعات وإن لم يعلمها.
A demonstration of the merit of the Night of Decree, encouragement to stand in prayer during it, and that this expiates the servant's previous sins. A demonstration of the vastness of Allah's mercy and His grace upon His servants in overlooking their sins and misdeeds. The merit of standing in prayer on the Night of Decree through acts of obedience generally, even if one does not know [precisely] which night it is.
