عَنِ ابنِ عُمَرَ رضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رِجَالًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُرُوا ليْلَةَ القَدْرِ فِي الْمَنَامِ فِي السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَرَى رُؤْيَاكُمْ قَدْ تَوَاطَأتْ فِي السَّبْعِ الأوَاخِرِ، فَمَنْ كَانَ مُتَحَرِّيَهَا فَلْيَتَحَرَّهَا فِي السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that some men among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were shown the Night of Decree in their dreams to be among the last seven [nights]. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I see that your dreams agree that it is among the last seven; so whoever seeks it out, let him seek it in the last seven." الشرح · explanation
أُروا: من الرؤيا أي قيل لهم في المنام ذلك، أو رأوا تلك الليلة في الرؤيا. رؤياكم: لأنّها لم تكن رؤيا واحدة. تواطأت: توافقت. متحريها: التحري: القصد والاجتهاد في الطلب.
"Were shown": from ru'ya (dream-vision), that is, they were told this in their sleep, or they saw that night in a dream. "Your dreams": [in the plural] because it was not a single dream. "Agree": they concur. "Whoever seeks it out": al-tahri means aiming for something and striving in seeking it.

الاستئناس بالرؤى وعدم التعويل عليها؛ لأنها مِن الْمُبَشِّرَات، ولا يُجزَم معها بشيء، ولا يُبنى عليها أحكام شرعية إلا بإقرار من النّبيّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عليه وَسَلَّمَ. دليل على إخفاء ليلة القدر؛ لأن الشيء البيِّن لا يحتاج إلى الْتِماس وتَحَرٍّ.
Taking comfort in dreams without relying upon them [decisively], for they are among the glad tidings; nothing is affirmed with certainty on their basis, and no legal rulings are built upon them except with the confirmation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Evidence for the concealment of the Night of Decree, since something clearly evident does not require searching and seeking out.
