عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ: «يُكَفِّرُ السَّنَةَ الْمَاضِيَةَ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about fasting the day of Ashura, and he said: "It expiates [the sins of] the preceding year." Reported by Muslim.
