عَنْ أُمِّ عُمَارَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا، فَقَدَّمَتْ إِلَيْهِ طَعَامًا، فَقَالَ: «كُلِي» فَقَالَت: إِنِّي صَائِمَةٌ، فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ الصَّائِمَ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ إِذَا أُكِلَ عِنْدَهُ حَتَّى يَفْرُغُوا» وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: «حَتَّى يَشْبَعُوا» رَوَاهُ التِّرمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Umm Umarah al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon her, and she offered him food. He said: "Eat." She said: I am fasting. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels pray for the fasting person when food is eaten in his presence, until they have finished." And perhaps he said: "until they are satisfied." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

تصلي عليه الملائكة: تستغفر له. يفرغوا: ينتهوا.
"The angels pray for him": they seek forgiveness for him. "Have finished": they conclude.
