عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «عَيْنَانِ لا تَمسُّهُمَا النَّارُ: عَيْنٌ بَكَتْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللّهِ، وَعَيْنٌ بَاتَتْ تَحْرُسُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ». رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Two eyes the Fire will not touch: an eye that wept out of fear of Allah, and an eye that spent the night standing guard in the path of Allah." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan hadith.
الشرح · explanation
خشية اللّهِ: الَّذي يَبْكي خَوفًا ورَجاءً للّهِ عزَّ وجلَّ عندَ توبةٍ أو ذِكرٍ أو طاعةٍ. تحرس في سبيل اللّهِ: أي الَّذي يُجاهِدُ في سبيلِ اللّهِ، وبالأخَصِّ الَّذي بات على ثغورِ المسلِمين يَحرُسُها مِن الأعداءِ
"Fear of Allah (khashyat Allah)": [this refers to] one who weeps out of fear of and hope in Allah (the Mighty and Majestic), during repentance, remembrance, or an act of obedience. "Stands guard in the path of Allah (tahrus)": that is, one who strives in the path of Allah, especially one who spends the night at the frontiers of the Muslims, guarding them from the enemy.
