عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَاتِ ظِلُّ فُسْطَاطٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ، وَمَنِيحَةُ خَادِمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، أَوْ طَرُوقَةِ فَحْلٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of charities is the shade of a tent in the path of Allah, the lending of a servant in the path of Allah, or [the gift of] a she-camel of breeding age in the path of Allah." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

فسطاط: بيت من الشَّعر يستظل به الغازي. منيحة خادم: منح الغازي خادمًا ليخدمه. طروقة فحل: أي منح الغازي ناقة بلغت سنًا يطرقها به الفحل، ليستعين بها في الجهاد. فحل: ذكر الإبل القادر على الجماع.
"A tent (fustat)": a tent of [woven] hair under which the fighter takes shade. "The lending of a servant (manihat khadim)": granting the fighter a servant to serve him. "A she-camel of breeding age (taruqat fahl)": that is, granting the fighter a she-camel that has reached the age at which the stallion covers her, so that he may make use of her in jihad. "Stallion (fahl)": a male camel capable of mating.

الترغيب في إعانة الغزاة بما يتقوون به على القتال من أسباب الراحة والقوة والنفقة، ويدخل فيها إعانة المحتاجين عامة ابتغاء وجه الله. خُصَّت هذه المعونات بالذكر دون غيرها لأفضليتها وحاجة الناس إليها في زمانها، ويُحمل عليها اليوم ما يضاهيها من حيث الحاجة والأهمية.
Encouragement to aid the fighters with whatever strengthens them for battle — the means of comfort, strength, and provision; and included in this is aiding the needy in general, seeking the Face of Allah. These forms of aid were singled out for mention over others because of their superiority and people's need for them in that era; and today whatever resembles them in need and importance is treated likewise.
