عَنْ سَهْل بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ سَأَلَ اللهَ تَعَالَى الشَّهَادَةَ بِصِدْقٍ بَلَّغَهُ مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَإِنْ مَاتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Sahl ibn Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sincerely asks Allah the Exalted for martyrdom, Allah will raise him to the stations of the martyrs, even if he dies on his bed." Reported by Muslim.

من صدقت نيّته في طلب الشهادة نالها وإن مات على فراشه. الصدق في النية قد يبلغ العمل ويُنال أجره.
Whoever is sincere in his intention in seeking martyrdom attains it, even if he dies on his bed. Truthfulness in intention may bring a person to [the level of] the deed and its reward being attained.
