عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إذَا غَزَا قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عَضُدِي وَنَصِيرِي، بِكَ أَحُولُ، وَبِكَ أَصُولُ، وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ، وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to war, he would say: "O Allah, You are my support and my helper; by You I maneuver, by You I assault, and by You I fight." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
عضدي: أي أنت عوني ومعتمدي وبك قوتي، والعضد ما بين المرفق إلى الكتف. أحول: أقوى وانتقل من مكان إلى مكان ومن حال إلى حال لمحايلة العدو ودفع أذاه. أصول: أي أثِب على العدو وانتصر عليه. بك أقاتل: أي بعونك وتأييدك وفي سبيلك وإعلاء كلمتك.
"my support ('adudi)": that is, You are my aid and my reliance, and through You is my strength; the 'adud is [the part of the arm] between the elbow and the shoulder. "I maneuver (ahulu)": I gain strength and move from place to place and from one state to another to outmaneuver the enemy and repel his harm. "I assault (asulu)": that is, I spring upon the enemy and overcome him. "by You I fight": that is, by Your aid and support, in Your path, and to raise Your word.

التوجه إلى كمال الاعتماد على اللّهِ واللجوء إليه والاستعانة به. أنّ هذا لا ينافي إعداد وتهيئة الأسباب كاملة والأخذ بها فإنّ ذلك ممّا هو مأمور به. أهمية هذا الدعاء عند الخروج في سبيل اللّهِ لما فيه من البراءة من حول النفس وقوتها والركون إليها، والإقرار بحول اللّهِ وقوته وعزته فهذه أولى الخطوات نحو تحقيق التوفيق والتأييد والنصر من اللّه.
Turning toward perfect reliance upon Allah, taking refuge in Him, and seeking His aid. That this does not conflict with fully preparing and arranging the means and taking them, for that is among what is commanded. The importance of this supplication upon setting out in the path of Allah, for it contains a disavowal of the self's own power and strength and reliance upon it, and an acknowledgment of Allah's power, strength, and might; this is the first of the steps toward attaining success, support, and victory from Allah.
