عَنْ عُرْوَةَ الْبَارِقِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ: الْأَجْرُ، وَالْمَغْنَمُ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Urwah al-Bariqi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Horses have goodness tied to their forelocks until the Day of Resurrection: reward and spoils." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
الأجر: أي الثواب المترتّب على ربطها في سبيل اللّهِ، وهو خير آجل. والمغنم: وهو النصر على الأعداء، والغنائم التي تكتسب منهم كالمال وغيره، وهو خير عاجل.
"reward (al-ajr)": that is, the recompense resulting from tethering them in the path of Allah, and it is a deferred good. "spoils (al-maghnam)": it is victory over the enemies and the spoils gained from them, such as wealth and the like, and it is an immediate good.

أنّ الخيل المعدّة للجهاد في سبيل اللّهِ قد اقترن بها الخير ولازَمها، إلى يوم القيامة، وهي في سعيها ذلك لا تخرج عن الأجر، والغنيمة، وربما ظفرت بهما معا.
That horses prepared for jihad in the path of Allah have goodness coupled with them and inseparable from them until the Day of Resurrection; in that pursuit of theirs they do not fall short of [gaining] reward and spoils, and may attain both together.
