عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنِ احْتَبَسَ فَرَسًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ، إِيمَانًا بِاللّهِ، وَتَصْدِيقًا بِوَعْدِهِ فَإِنَّ شِبَعَهُ وَرِيَّهُ وَرَوْثَهُ وَبَوْلَهُ فِي مِيزَانِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a horse in the path of Allah, out of faith in Allah and belief in His promise, then its being fed and watered, its dung and its urine, will be in his scale on the Day of Resurrection." الشرح · explanation
احتبس: أي ربط فرسًا وأعدّه للجهاد، وجعَله وَقْفًا للجهادِ في سبيلِ اللّهِ، والدِّفاعِ عن المُسلِمين. بوعده: أي الثواب المرتب على ذلك. رِيَّه: شربه حتى الارتواء. روثه وبوله: ما يخرج منه من فضلات طعامه وشرابه. في ميزانه: أي يثاب ويؤجر على كل ذلك، ويكونُ هذا الثَّوابُ في ميزانِه يومَ القيامةِ.
"keeps (ihtabasa)": that is, tethered a horse and prepared it for jihad, making it an endowment for jihad in the path of Allah and the defense of the Muslims. "His promise": that is, the reward resulting from that. "its watering (rayyahu)": its drinking until fully quenched. "its dung and its urine": what comes out of it of the waste of its food and drink. "in his scale": that is, he is rewarded and recompensed for all of that, and this reward will be in his scale on the Day of Resurrection.

الترغيب في إعداد الخيل في سبيل اللّهِ وأنّ ما ينفقه الإنسان عليها يكون في ميزان حسناته يوم القيامة، وأنّ كل ما يدخل جوفها من طعام وشراب وما يخرج منها يؤجر عليه. تخصيص الخيل دون غيرها من الدواب بذكر هذه الفضائل -ولكلٍّ خيره ونفعه- لِمَا خصّها اللّهُ به من الصفات المُعِينة في القتال.
Encouragement to prepare horses in the path of Allah, and that what a person spends on them will be in the scale of his good deeds on the Day of Resurrection, and that everything entering their belly of food and drink and everything coming out of them is rewarded. The singling out of horses over other animals with the mention of these virtues — though each has its own goodness and benefit — because of what Allah has singled them out with of qualities aiding in battle.
