عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَاقةٍ مَخْطُومَةٍ فَقَالَ: هذِهِ في سَبيلِ اللّهِ، فقَالَ رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَكَ بِهَا يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ سَبْعُ مِئَةِ نَاقَةٍ كُلُّهَا مَخْطُومَةٌ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a bridled she-camel and said: "This is in the path of Allah." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For it you will have on the Day of Resurrection seven hundred she-camels, all of them bridled." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
مخطومة: أي مجعول في رأسها الخطام وهو الزمام وسمي بذلك لأنّه يقع على خطم الدابّة وهو مقدم الأنف، وهو دليلٌ على كونِها ذَلُولًا صالحةً للحَمْلِ والرُّكوبِ.
"bridled (makhtumah)": that is, having the halter (khitam) placed on its head — the khitam being the rein, so called because it falls upon the muzzle (khatm) of the animal, which is the front of the nose; it is a sign of its being docile and fit for carrying loads and riding.
