عَنْ عُقْبةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّىٰ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللّهَ يُدْخِلُ بِالسَّهْمِ الْوَاحِدِ ثَلاثةَ نَفَرٍ الْجَنَّةَ: صَانِعَهُ، يَحْتَسِبُ فِي صَنْعَتِهِ الخَيْرَ، وَالرَّامِي بِهِ، وَمُنْبِلَهُ، وَارْمُوا وَارْكَبُوا ، وَأَنْ تَرْمُوا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ تَرْكَبُوا، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ الرَّمْيَ بَعْدَ مَا عُلِّمَهُ رَغْبَةً عَنْهُ فَإنَّهَا نِعْمَةٌ تَرَكَهَا» أَوْ قَالَ: «كَفَرَهَا» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ .
Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, on account of a single arrow Allah admits three persons into Paradise: its maker, who seeks reward through his craft; the one who shoots it; and the one who supplies him with it. So shoot and ride, and that you should shoot is more beloved to me than that you should ride. And whoever abandons archery after having been taught it, out of aversion to it, then it is a blessing he has abandoned," or he said, "which he has been ungrateful for." Reported by Abu Dawud.

يحتسب: يرجو الثواب. منبله: أي الذي يرد النبل على الرامي، وقيل: الذي يناول النبل إلى الرامي أو الذي يجهزه به. رغبة عنه: إعراضًا عنه وزهدًا فيه لا لعذر من مرض ونحوه.
"seeks reward" (yahtasib): hopes for the reward. "the one who supplies him with it" (munbilahu): that is, the one who returns the arrows to the shooter; and it is said: the one who hands the arrows to the shooter, or the one who prepares him with them. "out of aversion to it" (raghbatan anhu): turning away from it and forsaking it, not for an excuse such as illness or the like.

الترغيب في إعداد العدة للقتال وأنّ الثواب حاصل لكل من شارك فيه، وعلى المسلمين أن يهتموا يعتنوا بما هو أهم في السلاح وألزم لنصرهم على عدوهم. المؤاخذة على إهمال مزاولة أدوات الرمي والحرب بعد تعلمها رغبة عن الجهاد من غير عذر.
Encouragement to prepare the equipment for combat, and that the reward is attained by everyone who takes part in it; and Muslims must give care and attention to whatever is most important in weaponry and most necessary for their victory over their enemy. Reproach for neglecting the practice of the tools of archery and warfare after having learned them, out of aversion to jihad and without excuse.
