عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بنِ الْأكوَعِ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: مَرَّ النَّبيُّ صَلَّىٰ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى نَفَرٍ يَنْتَضِلُونَ، فَقَالَ: «ارْمُوا بَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَإنَّ أَبَاكُمْ كَانَ رَامِيًا» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Salamah ibn al-Akwa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a group who were competing in archery, and he said: "Shoot, O children of Ishmael, for your father was an archer." Reported by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
ينتضلون: يترامون بالسهام للسبق. بنو إسماعيل: هم العرب، وكان رامِيًا مُتقِنًا للرَّمْيِ عليه السَّلام.
"competing in archery" (yantadiluna): shooting arrows at one another in contest. "the children of Ishmael": they are the Arabs; and he (peace be upon him)—that is, Ishmael—was a skilled archer, precise in shooting.
