عنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ تَلَقَّاهُ النَّاسُ، فَلَقِيتُهُ مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ عَلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ. وَرَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ قَالَ: ذَهَبْنَا نَتَلَقَّى رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَ الصِّبْيَانِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الوَدَاعِ.
Al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived from the expedition of Tabuk, the people went out to meet him, and I met him along with the boys at Thaniyyat al-Wada. Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih chain in this wording. And al-Bukhari reported it with the wording: We went out to meet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with the boys to Thaniyyat al-Wada.
الشرح · explanation
تلقاه الناس: أي: استَقْبَلوه واستَعَدُّوا لقُدومِه. الصبيان: الغلمان قبل البلوغ. ثنية الوداع: مكان قرب المدينة سميت بذلك لأن المسافر كان يودع عندها.
"the people went out to meet him": that is, they welcomed him and made ready for his arrival. "the boys" (al-sibyan): the youths before puberty. "Thaniyyat al-Wada": a place near Medina, so named because the traveler would bid farewell there.

The recommendation of people going out to meet those returning from jihad in the path of Allah. In it is an encouragement for the fighters and joy at those returning, because of the joy and glad tidings they meet from the people at their arrival.
