عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رَسُول اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا نَصَحَ لِسَيِّدِهِ، وَأَحْسَنَ عِبَادَةَ اللّهِ فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, when a slave is sincere toward his master and worships Allah well, he has his reward twice over." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
العبد: أي المملوك ذكرًا كان أو أنثى. نصح لسيده: أي أخلص لمالكه الطاعة، وصدقه المشورة، وأعانه على الخير والصلاح، وأحسن خدمته، وحفظه في ماله وكل ما ائتمنه عليه. أحسن عبادة اللّهِ: التزم بأداء عباداته وواجباته الشرعية وجاء بها مستوفية للأركان والشروط والآداب.
"The slave": that is, the owned person, whether male or female. "Is sincere toward his master": that is, he is sincere in obeying his owner, gives him honest counsel, aids him in good and righteousness, serves him well, and safeguards him in his property and all that he entrusted to him. "Worships Allah well": he adheres to performing his acts of worship and religious obligations, fulfilling their pillars, conditions, and proprieties.

An exposition of the merit of the slave who fulfills the right of Allah and the right of his masters. Sincerity and truthfulness in work also fall under giving sincere counsel, and it is a cause for attaining reward and its multiplication. An exposition that all Allah's servants are equal in accountability, in the reckoning, in deserving reward and its multiplication, and in the safeguarding of rights and duties—whether the slave or the master.
