عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «الدُّنْيَا مَلْعُونَةٌ، مَلْعُونٌ مَا فِيهَا إِلّا ذِكْرَ اللّهِ تَعَالَى وَمَا وَالاهُ، وَعَالِمًا وَمُتَعلِّمًا» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The world is cursed, and cursed is what is in it, except the remembrance of Allah the Exalted and what is conducive to it, and a scholar and a learner." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
وَمَا وَالاهُ: أي طَاعَةُ اللّهِ.
"And what is conducive to it": that is, obedience to Allah.

الحثّ على تعلّم العلم وتعليمه، ليحصل على القرب من اللّه تعالى وينجو من الطرد من رحمته. طلب العلم ليس من الدنيا المذمومة ولو كان مما يتعلق بشؤونها إذا أخلص في النيّة، وصدق اللّه تعالى في قصد مصلحة العباد.
Encouragement to learn and teach knowledge, so as to attain nearness to Allah the Exalted and be saved from being driven away from His mercy. Seeking knowledge is not part of the blameworthy world, even if it relates to its worldly affairs, when the intention is sincere and one is truthful with Allah the Exalted in intending the welfare of His servants.
