حديث 1394·الباب 242 · باب فضل الحمد والشكر·رياض الصالحين · Riyad Al Salihin

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: عَنْ رَسُولِ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «كُلُّ أَمْرٍ ذِي بَالٍ لا يُبْدأُ فِيهِ بِالْحَمْدُ للّهِ أَقْطَعُ» حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ وَغَيْرُهُ.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every matter of importance that does not begin with the praise of Allah is deficient." A hasan (good) hadith, reported by Abu Dawud and others.

الشرح · explanation

أمر: شأن من شؤون الدنيا أو الآخرة. ذي بال: أي ذي أهمية، والبال في الأصل القلب والخاطر. بالحمد للّه: أي بهذه الصيغة. أقطع: ناقص وقليل البركة والخير.

"Matter": an affair among the affairs of this world or the Hereafter. "Of importance": that is, of significance; bal originally means the heart and the mind. "With the praise of Allah": that is, with this particular wording. "Deficient": incomplete and lacking in blessing and good.

من الآداب أن يبدأ المسلم قوله أو فعله بحمد اللّه تعالى، والأفضل الجمع بين البسملة والحمد للّه. أنّ ذكر اللّه تعالى سبب في حصول البركة.

It is part of good manners for the Muslim to begin his speech or action with the praise of Allah the Exalted, and it is best to combine the basmalah with the praise of Allah. The remembrance of Allah the Exalted is a cause for attaining blessing.
