عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أنَّ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا مَاتَ وَلَدُ الْعَبْدِ قَالَ اللّهُ تَعَالَى لِمَلائِكَتِهِ: قَبَضْتُمْ وَلَدَ عَبْدِي؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: نَعمْ، فَيَقُولُ: قَبَضْتُمْ ثَمَرَةَ فُؤَادِهِ؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: نَعَمْ، فَيَقُولُ: فَمَاذَا قَالَ عَبْدِي؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: حَمِدَكَ وَاسْتَرْجَعَ، فَيقُولُ اللّهُ تَعَالَى: ابْنُوا لِعَبْدِي بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وسَمُّوهُ بَيْتَ الْحَمْدِ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the child of a servant dies, Allah the Exalted says to His angels: 'Have you taken the soul of My servant's child?' They say: 'Yes.' He says: 'Have you taken the fruit of his heart?' They say: 'Yes.' He says: 'What did My servant say?' They say: 'He praised You and said the words of return (inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).' Then Allah the Exalted says: 'Build for My servant a house in Paradise, and name it the House of Praise.'" Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

قبضتم؟: الاستفهام للتنبيه على عظم المقام. ولد عبدي: الولد يطلق للصغير والكبير. ثمرة فؤاده: كناية عن الولد لشدة تعلق القلب به، فصار كأنّه ثمرته المقصودة. استرجع: أي قال: إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون.
"Have you taken?": the question is meant to draw attention to the greatness of the station. "My servant's child": the word "child" applies to both the young and the old. "The fruit of his heart": a metaphor for the child, on account of the heart's intense attachment to him, so that he becomes as if the intended fruit of the heart. "Said the words of return": that is, he said, "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."

فضل الصبر عند المصيبة، وحمد اللّه تعالى على قضائه، وكلما كانت المصيبة أكبر كان الأجر أعظم. العبد مبتلى، والمؤمن يرضى بقضاء اللّه ويحتسب المصاب عنده. الحثّ على حمد اللّه تعالى في كل حال. مراعاة الإسلام للفطرة وتقريره لتعلق الوالد بولده.
The merit of patience in the face of calamity and of praising Allah the Exalted for His decree; the greater the calamity, the greater the reward. The servant is tested, while the believer is content with Allah's decree and seeks reward from Him for the affliction. Encouragement to praise Allah the Exalted in every circumstance. Islam's regard for the natural disposition (fitrah) and its affirmation of a parent's attachment to his child.
