عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «رَغِمَ أَنْفُ رَجُلٍ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيَّ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May the nose of a man be rubbed in dust in whose presence I am mentioned and yet he does not send blessings upon me." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
رغم أنف: أي لصق بالتراب، والجملة كناية عن الذل والحقارة والخسران. ذكرت عنده: أي سمع ذكر اسمي.
"May his nose be rubbed in dust": that is, may it cleave to the dust; the phrase is a metaphor for humiliation, lowliness, and loss. "I am mentioned in his presence": that is, he heard my name mentioned.
