عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لاَ تَجْعَلُوا قَبْرِي عِيدًا، وَصَلُّوا عَلَيّ، فَإِنَّ صَلاَتَكُمْ تَبْلُغُنِي حَيْثُ كُنْتُمْ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not make my grave a place of festivity, and send blessings upon me, for your blessings reach me wherever you may be." Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.
الشرح · explanation
لا تجعلوا قبري عيدًا: أي لا تجتمعوا لزيارتي مرة بعد مرة كما تجتمعون في أيام العيد. تبلغني: أي تعرض على وتأتيني ثمرتها.
"Do not make my grave a place of festivity": that is, do not gather to visit me again and again as you gather on the days of the festival. "Reach me": that is, they are presented to me and their fruit comes to me.

الحثّ على الصلاة على النّبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم حيثما ذكر فإنّ الصلاة عليه صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم تبلغه. النهي عن فعل ما يخل بالأدب عند زيارته صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم من لهو وزينة مما رخص به في العيد. إشارة إلى أنّ ما ينال النّبيّ منكم من الصلاة والسلام يحصل مع قربكم من قبره وبعدكم عنه فلا حاجة بكم إلى اتخاذه عيدًا.
Encouragement to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wherever he is mentioned, for the blessings upon him reach him. The prohibition of doing anything that breaches proper etiquette when visiting him (peace and blessings be upon him), such as the amusement and adornment of the kind permitted on festival days. An indication that the blessings and greetings the Prophet receives from you are attained whether you are near his grave or far from it, so you have no need to make it a place of festivity.
