عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا يَدْعُو فِي صَلاتِهِ لَمْ يُمَجِّدِ اللّهَ تَعَالَى، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «عَجِلَ هَذَا» ثُمَّ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَوْ لِغَيْرِهِ: «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِتَمْجِيدِ رَبِّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ، وَالثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ يدْعُوَ بَعْدُ بِمَا شَاءَ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُود والتِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Fadalah ibn Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man supplicating in his prayer without glorifying Allah the Exalted and without sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This one has been hasty." Then he called him and said to him or to someone else: "When one of you prays, let him begin by glorifying his Lord (Glorified is He) and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then let him supplicate afterward with whatever he wishes." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.
الشرح · explanation
في صلاته: الظاهر أنّه عقب الانتهاء من الصلاة. عَجِلَ هذا: أي استعجل هذا فلم يحمد اللّه تعالى، أو لم يصل على نبيّه صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم في دعائه. إذا صلّى أحدكم: أي إذا أراد أن يدعوَ. الثناء عليه: أي بذكر صفاته الذاتية وتنزيهه عما لا يليق به.
"In his prayer": it appears this was right after finishing the prayer. "This one has been hasty": that is, this man rushed and did not praise Allah the Exalted, nor send blessings upon His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his supplication. "When one of you prays": that is, when he intends to supplicate. "Praising Him": that is, by mentioning His essential attributes and declaring Him free of what does not befit Him.
