عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ، كَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ؟ قَالَ: «قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِ وذُرِّيَّتِهِ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how are we to send blessings upon you?" He said: "Say: 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon his wives and his offspring, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim; and bless Muhammad and his wives and his offspring, as You blessed Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.'" Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

استحباب الصلاة والتبريك على أزواجه وذريّته صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم، ولا يكون ذلك إلّا تبعًا، ويكره إفراد أحد غير الأنبياء بالصلاة عليه.
The recommendation of sending blessings and invoking blessing upon his wives and offspring (peace and blessings be upon him), though this is done only as a subordinate to sending blessings upon him; and it is disliked to single out anyone other than the prophets for an independent invocation of blessings.
