عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُم أَنْ يَكْسِبَ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ أَلْفَ حَسَنَةٍ؟» فَسَأَلَهُ سَائِلٌ مِنْ جُلَسَائِهِ: كَيْفَ يَكْسِبُ أَلْفَ حَسَنَةٍ؟ قَالَ: «يُسَبِّحُ مِئَةَ تَسْبِيحَةٍ، فَيُكتَبُ لَهُ أَلْفُ حَسَنَةٍ، أَوْ يُحَطُّ عَنْهُ أَلْفُ خَطِيئَةٍ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ. قَالَ الحُميْدِيُّ: كَذَا هُوَ فِي كِتابِ مُسْلِمٍ: «أوْ يُحَطُّ» قَالَ البَرْقَانيُّ: ورَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ وَأَبُو عوانَةَ وَيَحيَى القَطَّانُ عَنْ مُوسَى الَّذِي رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ جِهَتِهِ فقَالُوا: «وَيُحَطُّ» بِغَيْرِ أَلِفٍ.

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he said: "Is any of you incapable of earning a thousand good deeds each day?" One of those sitting with him asked: How can one earn a thousand good deeds? He said: "He glorifies Allah a hundred times, and a thousand good deeds are recorded for him, or a thousand sins are dropped from him." Reported by Muslim. Al-Humaydi said: Thus it is in the book of Muslim: "or are dropped." Al-Barqani said: Shu'bah, Abu Awanah, and Yahya al-Qattan narrated it from Musa—through whom Muslim reported it—and they said: "and are dropped," without the alif.
