عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يقولُ: «أَفْضَلُ الذِّكْرِ: لا إلَـٰهَ إِلّا اللّهُ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best remembrance is: There is no god but Allah." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

أنّ كلمة التوحيد أفضل الكلام والذكر، لأنّها إثبات للوحدانية ونفي للشركاء، وهي أفضل ما قاله الأنبياء، ومن أجلها بعثوا، وتحت رايتها قاتلوا، وفي سبيلها استشهدوا، وهي مفتاح الجنّة والخلاص من النار. كلمة التوحيد ينبني عليها صلاح أعمال العباد وفسادها.
That the word of tawhid is the best of speech and remembrance, for it affirms Oneness and negates any partners. It is the best of what the prophets said; for its sake they were sent, under its banner they fought, and in its cause they were martyred; and it is the key to Paradise and the deliverance from the Fire. Upon the word of tawhid rests the soundness or corruption of the servants' deeds.
