عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ وَأَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ: «بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيَا وَأَمُوتُ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Hudhayfah and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he went to his bed, would say: "In Your name, O Allah, I live and I die." Reported by al-Bukhari.

The recommendation for a Muslim to say these words before sleeping, in emulation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is recommended that a Muslim keep death in mind in every state.
