عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَنْفُضْ فِرَاشَهُ بِدَاخِلَةِ إِزَارِهِ، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَدْرِي مَا خَلَفَهُ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the inner edge of his lower garment, for he does not know what may have come upon it after him. Then let him say: 'In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and by You I raise it up. If You take my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it with that by which You protect Your righteous servants.'" Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

بداخلة إزاره: أي بالطرف الذي يلي الجسد منه. أمسكت نفسي: كناية عن الموت. أرسلتها: كناية عن الإبقاء في الدنيا.
"With the inner edge of his lower garment": that is, with the edge of it that is next to the body. "If You take my soul": a metaphor for death. "If You release it": a metaphor for keeping it alive in this world.
